SaferSEA Study Visit in Cadiz
On September 24 & 25, 2025, the project partners gathered in Cadiz (ES) to take part in the Study Visit organised by local partner CEEI Bahia de Cadiz. The objective of this event was to discover the local ecosystem and meet with stakeholders.
During these two days, we took part in a rich programme of visits and conferences.
UCA Central Service of Nautical Resources and Infrastructure
We started off with a visit to the maritime simulators hosted by the University of Cadiz. These tools offer a realistic simulation of port operations, allowing students to test and apprehend new navigation technologies, traffic management tools and safety systems.
IncubAzul
We then went on to visit the new facilities of IncubAzul, the local programme for the promotion of innovation and transfer of technology to SMEs that operate in the Blue Economy sector of Andalusia.
These brand new offices will welcome the local edition of Ocean Hackathon®, on October 17-19, 2025.
Blue Zone Forum & Navalia Meeting
On September 24-26, Cadiz hosted the 3rd edition of the Blue Zone Forum, a place to reflect on the transition towards a more sustainable socioeconomic model, in connection with the sector of the Blue Economy. This year, the forum was coupled with the Navalia Meeting, dedicated to the naval industry.
The event, which featured both an exhibition hall and a conference programme, enabled the partners to take part in two activities:
- Demonstration from Bio Absoil, a company from Cadiz which developed a product that enables the capture and absorption of liquid contaminants, including vessel fuels.
- Participation in a conference on the topic of “Port Strategy and Maritime Transport”.
Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA)
APBA is an associated partner on SaferSEA. They also submitted several issues they are facing to the SaferSEA Call for Challenges, launched earlier this year.
This visit was an opportunity to discover APBA’s activities and facilities. On the agenda:
- Presentation of 3 projects developed around the Bay of Algeciras regarding decarbonization, emissions reduction and maritime safety: AMURA-ZIDAY, MarineHound and PANORAMA.
- Presentation and update on the SaferSEA Project
- Guided tour of the port facilities and main commercial terminals
- Guided tour of APBA's Entrepreneurship Centre
- Presentation of APBA's Green Strategy
- Presentation of the challenges submitted by APBA to the SaferSEA Call for Challenges
- Presentation of the 5 solutions submitted to APBA’s challenges
- Presentation of the Entrepreneurship Center's service called "Misión_PuertoDeAlgeciras", dedicated to port logistics
Partner Meeting
We concluded the second day with a Partner Meeting in the facilities of the Cadiz Conference Centre, to review the project progress and upcoming activities.
