The project partners gathered in Brest for 2 days for the project kick-off meeting.

Ocean Hackathon® International Finale 2023
On December 19th in the afternoon, the partners were invited to attend the Ocean Hackathon® 2023 Grand Finale, which took place in the Auditorium of Ateliers des Capucins. The 14 winners from the local editions competed in this finale and pitched their project in front of an international jury made up of 22 members.

The Ocean Hackathon® is a non-stop, 48-hour event during which teams develop a prototype and reflect on its use, in order to meet a challenge in the maritime sector. The next edition will take place in 2025 and will be integrated into the SaferSEA action plan.

Challenges of the shipping industry
On Wednesday 20th in the morning, the SaferSEA partners got together in La Maison des Projets for the project kick-off meeting. All 6 project partners were represented, as well as Brest Métropole, as local associated partner.

For this first partner gathering, the meeting was introduced by Frédérique Bonnard Le Floc’h, Vice-president of Brest Métropole, on behalf of Michel Gourtay, President of Technopôle Brest-Iroise. Over 3 hours, the partners then reviewed the project action plan for the next 3 years, as well as financial and administrative aspects for a sound project implementation.

In order to better understand the challenges currently faced by the shipping industry but also by our coastal territories, this kick-off meeting ended with a visit of the 70.8 museum. With a focus on the shipping routes and the current changes for cargo ships and ports, this visit enabled the partners to have an overview of what is at stake in the maritime sector.

Thank you to all partners for their active participation in this meeting!
