International Grand Finale of Ocean Hackathon® 2025
From October 17 to 19, 2025, Brest (FR) and Cádiz (ES), along with eight other cities around the world, hosted local editions of Ocean Hackathon®, a non-stop, 48-hour event where teams compete to address challenges in the maritime sector. At the end of this intensive sprint, each team presents its project to a local jury.
The winning team from each city then qualifies for the international Grand Finale in Brest, where they pitch their project before an international jury. The event took place on 2 December, 2025.
The winners from Cádiz, supported by SaferSEA, presented their project, called OCEAN E-CLEAN and promoted by Santiago Miranda: a self-contained, circular solution to address oil spills in ports and coastal areas. It uses autonomous catamarans to deploy a bio-absorbent material that transforms oily waste into solid biofuel: pollution becomes clean energy.
Although the project didn't reach the podium, its quality remains very promising for the development of a cleaner marine environment. Congratulations to the team on their victory in Cádiz and keep up the good work!
